Spain boasts 5000 miles of coastline, from the sandy sun soaked strips of the Canary Islands, to secluded rocky enclaves in the north, all never far from an overflowing bar or restaurant. Unsurprisingly, it is the place that first comes to mind when searching for sol y playa holidays.

According to Trip Advisor Travelers’ Choice Awards 2019, Spain has some of the best beaches in the world, with two achieving spots in the top 15. La Concha, San Sebastian triumphed with first place in Spain and fourth worldwide. Whereas Ses Illetes, in Formentera came in at 13th and second in Spain. The awards are determined by both the quantity and rankings of reviews that travellers have given, in the last 12 months, to over 352 beaches across the world on Trip Advisor.

To sunbathe: Ses Illetes, Formentera, Balearic Islands

Sun worshipers should head to Formentera, the smallest of the Balearic Islands, which is only a short ferry ride from neighbouring Ibiza. What it lacks in size, it compensates with vast, spacious and stunning beaches. Take a picnic, a sun umbrella and don´t think about moving anywhere too soon! You will easily see why it holds position as Spain´s second best beach, with its pure white sands, crystal clear water and tranquility. It is possible to visit the beach for a day trip, but it is recommended to stay on the island to catch a sublime sunset!Find out all you need to know about Ses Illetes in this article written by Affitto Formentera.

To escape the crowds: Playa de Cofete, Islas Canarias.

Located on the remote western Jandía peninsula of Fuerteventura, is where a rugged dramatic coastline converges with powdery sand, weathered by the North Atlantic waters. The biggest draw of this beach is due to the fact it often remains deserted, given its difficult nature to reach. Therefore, it is ranked as the 4th best beach in the country, for good reason. Experience a utopian landscape, devoid of the usual overpopulation that Spanish beaches see. To reach this people free oasis, either brave the bumpy ride across dirt tracks, or hike from Morro Jable if feeling adventurous.

For adventure junkies: Playa de Bolonia, Tarifa Andalusia

The Andalusian coast of Tarifa, acquired 9th place on the list and is home to an abundance of spectacular shorelines. Playa de Bolonia is one of these beaches, enveloped by sand dunes, covering 3800m and with sufficent wind, it is perfect for surfing, windsurfing and sailing enthusiasts. For the restless, Playa de Bolonia provides endless opportunities. The chilled out surf town vibe of the bars and shops that fringe the beaches, make it a haven for likeminded adventure seekers.

For the foodies: La Concha Beach, San Sebastian

La Concha, winning position as the best beach in Spain and fourth worldwide, not only owing to its beautiful location, but its embolism of San Sebastian. It curves around the town’s northern border and overlooks the Isla de Santa Clara. Aside from its unique location, it is situated in the Basque country, which is famed for its delicious and varied pintxos bars, alongside its high class Michelin star establishments. Enjoy the remarkable views of La Concha, whilst devouring local favourites in one of the restaurants that line the promenade.

To swim: Playa de Muro, Mallorca

Located in the north of Mallorca in the region of Alcudia, it is one of the most popular beaches on the island. Exceptionally shallow, azure waters, wide sandy expanses and a laid back atmosphere make it the perfect beach for swimming. The attractive features of Play de Muro have given rise to its position of third place in Spain and 10th best in Europe.
